Life after Littlefield: This series can make or break the Pirates’ playoff hopes.

Life+after+Littlefield%3A+This+series+can+make+or+break+the+Pirates+playoff+hopes.

After the game finally started at 11:42 p.m. last night after a 3 hour and 37 minute rain delay, the Pirates were able to split the series with the Cubs with a 3-0 victory in a game that could possibly set the tone for this series starting tonight against the Brewers at 7:05 p.m.

The game ball last night definitely goes to starter Kevin Correia who went 7 shutout innings giving up just 2 hits and striking out 6.  Many thought Hurdle should have left Correia in there as he had only thrown 86 pitches through 7 and looked to have the Cubs lineup fooled all night as they were only able to get 2 hits off of the veteran right-hander.  The number 1 and 2 guys in the batting order, Staring Marte and Jose Tabata, supplied the offense last night.  Marte drove in 2 runs and collected his third triple of the series.  Tabata also drove in a run and collected 2 hits as he looks to get back to his old ways.  As for the rest of the offense it was a rough night as the team as a total struck out 15 times last night.

AJ takes the hill tonight and is dire need of a win as he looks for his first since August 16th against the Dodgers.  Right now the Pirates and Brewers are tied for 3rd in the NL Central, as both of them have a record of 74-72.  This is a big series for both teams. Boy would a sweep help the Pirates.
